EngineeringMy 11th grade engineering class helps teach everything from engineering design principles to handling power tools, hand tools, and their respective safety procedures. In this class we have handled a multitude of tools from simple impact drivers to larger ones such as table saws, band saws, drill presses, etc.

Building Stools |
Our first project in engineering was to build wooden stools that would fit the height of our newly ordered tables. We had to measure and cut all of our working materials from long 2x3 boards. In the end my stool met all of the requirements with only one necessary revision. I'm proud of my work and my classmates use our stool every day in the engineering classroom.

School Improvement |
Our second project in engineering was to pick a teacher as our client and listen to their requests for projects to improve their classroom. I picked our freshman physics teacher and decided to build a counter top shelf to replace an old drawer set in the corner of her room. Using one sheet of plywood I measured and cut all the necessary pieces to assemble the small shelf. Once all the pieces were cut I applied wood glue to all the ends and secured them with brad nails. The final step was to secure it to the wall in the classroom which conveniently already had holes for drywall screws from the drawer set that was previously there. This was my first time using a nail gun and I have to admit it was quite fun! |
