Elements of Art Cube
In multimedia, our first project was to develop a cube that displayed the elements of art. We drafted several concepts of each element before finally applying them onto our cube. For this project we had to fit six of them onto a cube to display in the classroom.
Reflection and What I've LearnedPrior to doing this project I knew very little about the foundations of art. This project brought me into perspective of what actually makes up any work of art. Even in my pursuit of engineering, things still appear to me under similar principles to what I learned in this project.
We started off with a blank packet with each page holding three empty boxes to do separate drafts of a specific element of art. The first one we did was with line. And as you can see in the first slide, is an evolution of what the original packet reflected. Each draft was handed to a partner and we received feedback on what we could improve and what they liked about each draft. This system of drafting taught us something valuable. It introduced me to the process of finding key and useful feedback among a lengthy response to any one of my drafts. This helped me find out what I could use to improve my art, and what was just 'fluff' for instance: some people simply said "I think your drawing is really cool!" and others told me "I think you should draw your lines sharper." Which one do you think was more helpful in the end? In addition to learning how to evaluate critique I learned how to apply the key building blocks of art in a new and interesting way that I previously could have never achieved. Being aware of what makes art, well art is what makes this such a difference. Even in the most basic of things that may not even relate to art you can still look at with a different perspective. This small project has been very valuable. |
